Silk Fibroin: A Promising Tool for Wound Healing and Skin Regeneration

نویسندگان

چکیده

Silk is a functional protein biomaterial produced by variety of insects like flies, silkworms, scorpions, spiders, and mites. synthesized silkworms extensively studied for its applications in tissue engineering wound healing. undoubtedly natural biocompatible material with humans has role medical treatments from ancient times. The silk worm comprises two types proteins namely fibroin sericin. makes up approximately 70% cocoon weight wide textiles all biomedical owing to biocompatible, nontoxic, biodegradable, less immunogenic, noncarcinogenic nature. It possesses outstanding toughness mechanical strength, while sericin high defensive ability against ultraviolet light oxidation. been known induce healing increasing cell proliferation growth migrating various cells which are involved different stages process. With several varieties fibroin, sericin, recombinant materials, native spider have investigated over the last decades. an objective harnessing regenerative properties, plentiful strategies applied develop bioartificial skin grafts bioactive dressings recent This review gives detailed insight into structure, general structure-properties relationship, fibroin.

Novel silk fibroin/elastin wound dressings.

Silk fibroin (SF) and elastin (EL) scaffolds were successfully produced for the first time for the treatment of burn wounds. The self-assembly properties of SF, together with the excellent chemical and mechanical stability and biocompatibility, were combined with elastin protein to produce scaffolds with the ability to mimic the extracellular matrix (ECM). Porous scaffolds were obtained by lyop...

Wound healing in adult skin: aiming for perfect regeneration.

Wound healing in adult skin, a complex process involving many cell types and processes such as epidermal, fibroblastic, and endothelial cell proliferation, cell migration, matrix synthesis, and wound contraction, almost invariably results in scar tissue formation and wound induration. Unlike in adult skin, wound healing in embryos involves repair processes that result in the essentially perfect...

Nonmulberry Silk Fibroin Scaffold Shows Superior Osteoconductivity Than Mulberry Silk Fibroin in Calvarial Bone Regeneration.

Recent years have witnessed the advancement of silk biomaterials in bone tissue engineering, although clinical application of the same is still in its infancy. In this study, the potential of pure nonmulberry Antheraea mylitta (Am) fibroin scaffold, without preloading with bone precursor cells, to repair calvarial bone defect in a rat model is explored and compared with its mulberry counterpart...

Electrospun silk material systems for wound healing.

The functional properties of six distinct electrospun silk material groups were evaluated to assess conformational and biocompatible characteristics related to wound dressings. In a hydrated state, all six silk matrices exhibited absorption, water vapor transmission, oxygen permeation and enzymatic biodegradation suitable for full-thickness wound sites. Employing constrained drying techniques, ...

Non-mulberry Silk Fibroin Biomaterial for Corneal Regeneration

PURPOSE Successful repair of a damaged corneal surface is a great challenge and may require the use of a scaffold that supports cell growth and differentiation. Amniotic membrane is currently used for this purpose, in spite of its limitations. A thin transparent silk fibroin film from non-mulberry Antheraea mylitta (Am) has been developed which offers to be a promising alternative. The silk sca...
